I heard about this place where beautiful but at risk children were given a place to find purpose and happiness. The place is calle Los Amigos De La Esquina, LADLE. I learned that it was not planned but happened out of the kindness and compassion of a couple of incredible humans. These two were presented with an opportunity to do good without expecting anything in return, or at least not financially as was the initial plan. You see, this esquina (corner ) was meant to be an apartment building. It was meant to take advantage of a housing boom in the midst of its massive explosion in Tulum. This town is a like the Wild West, a kin to the pioneer towns where gold laid at the bottom of rivers. These men, jaime and frank, seeing a need and meeting children (our real gold ) who had inhabited their empty plot of land, ready for construction, went against their business minds and followed their hearts. They abandoned the business and listened to their essence. They declared the plot of land a place for children to grow up with love, happiness and purpose. This single act of kindness, 5 years ago, has turned in to what I believe to be the most meaningful and inspiring community in Tulum. LADLE reminds everyone that if we work towards the betterment of all, the world can change and hope will allow us to thrive.
I invited my brothers of @mardelevalive to perform at la esquina for their 3 year anniversary. It was probably one of my favorite shows, pure with intention. I watched families dance with such joy.
Now, 2 years later, LADLE is 100 times more relevant and crucial, not just for the lives of these children and future generations but for what it invokes in everyone who comes in contact with it. My concerts at Habitas have become somewhat of an institution for Tulum, because It’s where we gather to collectively bring a powerful intention to what it is this place desperately needs. My hope with the shows is to always reset the dial and reinvigorate our actions for good. The entirety of ticket sales go directly to keeping this dream alive.
I haven’t played with my Mardeleva brothers in more than a year and we reunite for this very important evening of action and purpose.
If these words resonate with you, please tap on the link below and help us keep LADLE alive and well. A seed was planted years ago and we MUST continue to water it.
Thank you and I hope to see you on the 19th if you’re in Tulum. If you’re somewhere else on this beautiful planet, take a moment to be part of this beautiful effort from afar, by donating.
